[FOM] Beth on Aristotle

Any classical scholars out there..?

I find in my Baby Logic lecture notes the allegation that Evert Beth said 
that Aristotle's great insight was that reasoning from premisses *assumed*
to be true was the same as reasoning from premisses *known* to be true.
Was Aristotle the first person to spot this?  And where in Beth could I 
have read this?
