SPRING 2006 Course Roadmap

Of the courses being offered in Spring 2006, the following are suitable for most incoming MS students: Fundamental Algorithms (G22.1170), Programming Languages (G22.2110), Operating Systems (G22.2250), Database Systems (G22.2433), Software Engineering (G22.2440), Artificial Intelligence (G22.2560), Natural Language Processing (G22.2590), Internet/Intranet Protocols and Applications (G22.3033-004), Rapid Visualization (G22.3033-009), and Values Embodied in Information and Communication Technology (G22.3033-012).

Students with a strong mathematical background, particularly linear algebra, might also consider Scientific Computing (G22.2112), Computer Vision (G22.2271), and Foundations of Machine Learning (G22.2565).

We strongly recommend that incoming students take either Fundamental Algorithms or Programming Languages in their first semester

Requirement C of the MS requirements specifies that an MS student must pass at least one course in each of two applications areas. The areas are Graphics, Computation for Science and Society, AI, and Databases. The following courses offered this spring satisfy this requirement:

Graphics: Computer Vision (G22.2271), Experiments in Motion Capture (G22.3033-001), and Advanced Topics in Computer Vision and Tracking.

Computation for Science and Society: Scientific Computing (G22.2112), Numerical Methods II (G22.2421), Advanced Numerical Analysis (G22.2945-001), and Selected Topics in Numerical Analysis (G22.29456-002),

AI: Computer Vision (G22.2271), Artificial Intelligence (G22.2560), Natural Language Processing (G22.2590), Foundations of Machine Learning (G22.3033-003), and Data Warehousing and Mining (G22.3033-010),

Databases: Database Systems (G22.2433) and Data Warehousing and Mining (G22.3033-010).

Requirement D of the MS requirements specifies that an MS student must pass at least one project course. The following courses offered this semester can be used to satisfy that requirement: Compilers (G22.2130), High Performance Computer Architecture (G22.2243), Software Engineering (G22.2440), and Info. Tech. Projects (G22.3812).
