The PAC Program
Applicants whose
previous training does not qualify them for admission to the master's program
but who otherwise show aptitude for graduate study in
computer science may be admitted on a conditional
basis, with the requirement of successful completion of
PAC (Preparatory Accelerated Course). The PAC program is a two-course
sequence (G22.1133 and G22.1144, Intensive Introduction
to Graduate Study in Computer Science, I and II),
beginning in the fall term. The two courses fulfill the
minimum computer science prerequisites necessary to begin
graduate study. Students who complete the two-course
sequence and receive a grade of B or better
in the second semester,
and who also satisfy the mathematics requirement, are
permitted to continue in the MS in CS program.
Students who get less than a B in G22.1133 will not be
allowed to register for G22.1144.
NOTE: Some prior
programming experience is recommended for entry into this
program. GRE scores (general test only) are required for
PAC admission.
International
students should note that in order to qualify for full-time status, they will be be required,
under advisement by the Director of Graduate Studies,
to register for udergraduate computer science classes of level 200
or greater, graduate mathematics courses, and selectively chosen graduate
computer science courses. The PAC and undergraduate courses would not be
counted toward completion of master's degree requirements.
Note that your visa document (certificate of eligibility, form I-20 or
IAP-66) will state that you are in the Preparatory Course Program for the
first year. Once they have passed the program (with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or
better), they will be issued a certificate of eligibility for the master's program.
