`prae'  - in front of, before.

`necto' - to tie up, to bind, to fasten


`nexum' - a derivative from `necto'. As an adjective: tied up, bound, 
fastened.

(interestingly, `nexum' as a noun was a name of a way you could borrow 
money in Rome by signing a document saying that if you don't pay in 
time, you'll become a slave to the person you borrow the money from. 
There is a slight chance this second use has nothing to do with the word 
`prenex'.).
