[FOM] Could spacetime be discrete?

The big advocate of a cellular space time is the computer scientist
Edward Fredkin.  He has to make the scale small enough to account for
the apparent rotational invariance of space.  Some physicists were
interested in his efforts, but I don't think he got anything
plausible.
