Hi-

Herb Enderton gave this pointer to Kreider's review of several of Addison's
articles:  JSL V 29 (1964) page 60.

Addison's article "Separation principles in the hierarchies of classical and
effective descriptive set theory,"  appears in Fundamenta Mathematicae,
V 46 (1958) pages 123-135.  It's available on the web at:

On page 127 the article says:  "After lengthy discussions here in Warszawa
it has been decided to propose..." and then the notation is presented.  It's
fun to see a little of the process recorded in this way.
