[FOM] variants of email addresses

Dear FOMers,

An administrative problem I've written about before:

Lots of subscribers post messages with return email addresses different
from the one under which they are subscribed. When this happens, the
"mailman" software informs me that it is a post from a non-subscriber. The
software isn't very subtle about this. Someone subscribed as
foo at univboo.edu may send a message at the University of Boo from a computer
called frege and mailman may see the message as coming from
foo at frege.univboo.edu and flag it is coming from a non-subscriber.

I used to badger people about this. But lately I manually check the
subscriber list and say nothing if I identify the message as coming from a
subscriber. And of course when there are ongoing exchanges, I generally
don't need to check after the first time.

However, to make my work easier, I WOULD VERY VERY MUCH APPRECIATE AN
EFFORT TO KEEP THE ADDRESS UNDER WHICH YOU'RE SUBSCRIBED IDENTICAL TO THE
ONE REPORTED AS YOUR RETURN ADDRESS. IF YOU NEED TO CHANGE YOUR ADDRESS ON
FOM YOU CAN DO SO EASILY AT http://www.cs.nyu.edu/mailman/listinfo/fom
