Buckner's review reminds me of the historical note by Aki Kanamori in 
the September 2003 Bulletin of Symboli Logic
entitled: _The empty set, the singleton and the ordered pair.

_The article addresses a number of historical issues that have appeared 
on this list recently. In particular_
_The element versus subset distinction discussed by Buckner is also 
addressed by Kanamori.

Buckner had written:
