The Comparative Literature department met on Thursday and passed the following resolution unanimously:

The faculty of the Department of Comparative Literature wishes to register its opposition to the proposed NYU 2031 development plan. We think it will have a negative impact on the academic mission of the university. It will impede in the foreseeable future NYU's ability to recruit new faculty and create a prolonged assault on the living and work environment of current faculty and students. While we are not opposed in principle to increased housing and classrooms, we deplore the magnitude of the plan in a period of general economic precariousness and of extensive extramural programs on the part of NYU on offsite campuses. We are deeply concerned about the lack of exposure of financial specifics and the absence of adequate consultation with the faculty.
